Leisure activities in the region

The Loire Valley is a huge playground that you will enjoy discovering during your holidays.

There are many hiking and cycling routes to choose from. The Loire by bike, the Indre by bike, Saint-Jacques by bike and the loops of Touraine offer you many marked and secure trails.

Canoeing is also an excellent way to discover Touraine, paddling on the Loire, but also the Vienne or Indre.

Sainte-Catherine de Fierbois

In the Middle Age, the church of Fierbois, dedicated to Sainte Catherine, patron of soldiers, was renowned for its miracles.

On her way to Chinon, Joan of Arc arrived here in 1429 to meet the Dauphin.

After having persuaded him to give her an army, Joan went to look for her sword in the church of Sainte Catherine de Fierbois as the voices had indicated. This sword, with five crosses engraved, never left her side and when Joan was captured she had it with her.

The church of Sainte Catherine de Fierbois has always been a pilgrim centre on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle and was a very important place in the Middle Age. The church is now a Historical Monument.

Rural Arts and Crafts

The Loire Valley offers variety and quality products under the name of “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée” (AOC) like the goat’s cheese from Sainte Maure and the various names of wines like de Montlouis, Vouvray, Chinon and also Coteaux du Layon.

The discovery of this country comes also from the local producers in the local markets (list of markets available at the reception).

A wine-tasting and the discovery of the Loire wines are offered each week on the square in front of the Vival shop. Rose, white and red wines from the vineyard can be bought in the Vival Market in the park. You can also have more information on the different wine trips of the Loire Valley vineyards.
