Alone, as a couple, with family or friends, come and discover these architectural gems. Most are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reflecting the cultural influence of the French Renaissance in the Loire Valley region. <\/p><\/div><\/div>

As well as being a wonderful green setting, the Loire Valley was once known as the Valley of the Kings. One of the most beautiful rides in the region is to cycle along the Loire and visit famous ch\u00e2teaux such as Chenonceau, Blois and Amboise. You can also visit lesser-known ch\u00e2teaux such as Chaumont sur Loire. And don’t forget to visit typical villages like Muides sur Loire and Chaumont sur Loire. Then set off to discover Tours and the famous Beauval zoo from our campsite near the ch\u00e2teaux de la Loire. <\/p>

Ch\u00e2teau Azay-le-Rideau<\/h2>

Balzac called it a “faceted diamond set by the Indre”, because of its magnificent reflection in the waters of the river on which it seems to have been set. <\/p>

Its straight staircase was also a great innovation at the time of its construction. It also boasts some superb rooms with original furnishings, including the Biencourt salon. The ch\u00e2teau also boasts a lovely park and a water mirror. Distance from campsite: 25 km<\/p><\/div>

Loches Castle<\/strong><\/h2>

The royal city of Loches is a fine example of French military architecture, whose stones contain over 1,000 years of history.<\/p>

From the royal gateway to the medieval gardens, it’s an opportunity to admire one of the most beautiful buildings in the heart of the Loire Valley, in Loches, where Charles VII was crowned King of France. Distance from campsite: 30 km<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Ch\u00e2teau de Chinon<\/h2>

Chinon’s royal fortress, built on ancient Roman fortifications, overlooks the town.<\/p>

It was built in a strategic location at the crossroads of Touraine, Anjou and Poitou. It was at Chinon castle that Joan of Arc went to convince the King of France to give her the arms she needed to liberate Orleans. Distance from campsite: 35 km<\/p><\/div>

Ch\u00e2teau d’Uss\u00e9<\/strong><\/h2>

Welcome to the Ch\u00e2teau de la Belle au Bois Dormant. With its superb towers and fabulous gardens designed by Le N\u00f4tre, the Ch\u00e2teau d’Uss\u00e9 deserves its place among the most beautiful ch\u00e2teaux of the Loire Valley. In addition to Perrault, it has won over such illustrious figures as Vauban and Chateaubriand. Distance from campsite: 38 km<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Villandry Castle<\/h2>

This magnificent chateau built on the banks of the Loire at Villandry is distinguished by its imposing construction, beautiful proportions and fabulous gardens.<\/p>

It was at Ch\u00e2teau de Villandry that the Peace of Colombiers was signed, a document by which Henry II Plantagenet, King of England, acknowledged his defeat at the hands of Philippe Auguste, King of France. Distance from campsite: 40 km<\/p><\/div>

Ch\u00e2teau de Langeais<\/strong><\/h2>

This ancient medieval fortress was embellished by Richard the Lionheart. Destroyed by the English during the Hundred Years’ War, the ch\u00e2teau was rebuilt by Louis XI in the mid-15th century. It was here in Langeais that the marriage of Charles VIII and Anne de Bretagne took place. The ch\u00e2teau boasts fabulous grounds, beautiful tapestries and one of the oldest stone keeps in France. Chenonceau Castle<\/h2>

The history of Ch\u00e2teau de Chenonceau is as extraordinary as its construction. <\/p>

It passed in turn through the hands of Fran\u00e7ois 1er, Henri II, Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de M\u00e9dicis. Catherine de M\u00e9dicis fell under its spell. The chambre des Cinq Reines (Room of the Five Queens) reminds visitors that the history of this ch\u00e2teau was written primarily by women. Distance from campsite: 47 km<\/p><\/div>

A name that speaks volumes<\/p>

Montr\u00e9sor Castle<\/strong><\/h2>

Ch\u00e2teau de Montr\u00e9sor comprises a medieval fortress and a Renaissance Logis. It also served as a hospital during the First World War, and was listed as a historic monument in 1996. The dwelling houses a number of works of art and objets d’art, including a buffet \u00e0 cachettes from the M\u00e9dicis family. Distance from campsite: 48 km<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Leonardo, kings and stars<\/p>

Ch\u00e2teau d’Amboise<\/h2>

The Ch\u00e2teau Royal d’Amboise was a favorite residence of the kings of France and Leonardo da Vinci.<\/p>

In fact, the Italian genius was buried here in Amboise, in the heart of the Loire Valley, in the Valley of the Kings. The children of Henri II and Catherine de M\u00e9dicis also grew up here. Every summer, a marvellous night-time show is staged here. Distance from campsite: 49 km<\/p><\/div>

Wines and relics in a rural setting<\/p>

Valmer Castle<\/strong><\/h2>

It’s certainly not one of the best-known Loire castles, unlike Blois, Amboise or Chenonceau. <\/p>

Its architecture and location in the heart of the vineyards give it a special country charm. Ch\u00e2teau de Valmer also boasts wonderful<\/strong>gardens<\/strong> where you can lose yourself in the sun. An excellent way to combine a ch\u00e2teau visit with wine tasting. Secret paintings in the countryside<\/p>

Ch\u00e2teau de Gizeux<\/h2>

Located in the heart of the countryside, on the site of an ancient fortified castle, Ch\u00e2teau de Gizeux boasts some very fine 17th-century paintings. <\/p>

Today, however, the mansion is inhabited, but remains open to the public. It is characterized by its large facades, over 250 m long, all set in a beautiful green setting. Distance from campsite: 56 km<\/p><\/div>

The masterpiece hunt is on<\/p>

Chambord Castle<\/strong><\/h2>

A former hunting lodge near Muides sur Loire, Ch\u00e2teau de Chambord was completely renovated in the late 17th century at the instigation of Louis XIV, who turned it into one of the most visited and photographed castles in France.<\/p>

What’s more, listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1981, it welcomed over a million visitors in 2017. In conclusion, this is a site not to be missed during your camping vacation in the Centre Val de Loire region. Distance from campsite: 102 km<\/p><\/div><\/div>

A castle, a museum, a vision<\/p>

Ch\u00e2teau de Montsoreau<\/h2>

Both a Loire ch\u00e2teau and a Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ch\u00e2teau de Montsoreau in the Loire Valley is today the most modern of them all. It was the first of the Loire Valley’s Renaissance ch\u00e2teaux to be built. <\/p>

It was built by Jean II de Chambes in the XV\u1d49 century. Situated between Tours and Angers, Ch\u00e2teau de Montsoreau has inspired many artists, not least thanks to its waterside location and architecture. After several years of renovation, Philippe M\u00e9aille bought the estate in 2015 to turn it into a veritable museum. <\/p>
