Tourism and places of interest in Chinon
Peaceful and enchanting, the town of Chinon, south of Tours in the Loire Valley, owes its fame to its royal fortress, vineyards, Sainte Radegonde chapel and Joan of Arc.

The fortress, which overlooks the town and the Vienne river, has played a decisive role in the history of France and Touraine. It was here that the King of France agreed to give Joan of Arc the weapons she needed to liberate Orleans. Other remarkable buildings in Chinon include the chapel of Sainte-Radegonde and the collegiate church of Saint-Mexme.
Winegrowing is one of the most dynamic sectors in Chinon and the Pays de la Loire region, close to the Castel Parc de Fierbois campsite. Chinon, an AOC wine, is produced on a surface area of 2,300 hectares around the commune.
While on vacation in the Loire Valley castles, take the opportunity to discover the wine merchants and winemakers who invite visitors to learn about the wine-making process and taste the wine: Caves Painctes, Château de la Grille, Domaine de Noiré… A number of interesting museums are worth a visit in Chinon, in particular the Carroi-musée (a museum of local art and history) and the Musée Rabelais. If the châteaux of the Loire fascinate you, take advantage of your camping holiday in Chinon to visit the nearby châteaux of the Loire Valley (Château du Rivau, Château de Marçay, Château Du Coudray Montpensier, Château du Petit Thouars). The departments of Maine et Loire, Vienne and Deux Sèvres are also nearby.
