Tourism and places of interest in Chenonceaux

The château is located in Chenonceaux, a small village in the Indre et Loire region on the banks of the Cher river. It remains the main attraction to be visited on site, which is why you’ll find other activities around this tourist spot.

You can take off in a hot-air balloon over the château, or take part in events organized around the gardens and floral art. Château de Chenonceaux is one of the finest examples of French Renaissance architecture, and has been embellished and restored by many of France’s leading ladies. Originally built in the Middle Ages, the château took on its present form between 1513 and 1517. The name “château des dames” comes from the time of Henri II, when the favorites and widows of great kings gradually moved into this royal residence.

Each of them appropriated it in their own way, making a number of modifications to the château’s rooms and garden. The building comprises two wings and a chapel, with an Italian garden on one side and a formal garden on the other. Make the most of your stroll to visit the other Loire castles just a few minutes from our campsite near Chenonceaux.
