It was in the royal city of Loches, near the Castel Parc de Fierbois campsite, that Charles VII was crowned King of France. Its location, architecture, medieval gardens and fine collection of armor make the Château de Loches one of the finest châteaux in the Loire Valley. So much so, in fact, that it often overshadows the entire heritage of this town of 6,300 inhabitants, which is irrigated by the Indre river.

As you stroll through the streets of Loches, you’ll see such magnificent buildings as the Saint-Ours church, the Saint-Antoine church, the Saint-Antoine tower, the Lansyer house-museum, the Cordeliers gate, the Picois gate and town hall, the keep, the Royal gate, the Caisse d’Épargne hotel, the Vignemont chapel and the Sansac manor house.
If you’re looking to reconnect with nature during your Loire Valley castles vacation, you can relax for a few moments in the Loches public gardens or in the Prairies du Roy. For longer walks, head for the Etang du Pas aux Ânes, less than 5 km from Loches, on the road to Montrésor. Before returning to the campsite, consider a short detour to the Château de Verneuil-sur-Indre, 6 km from Loches.
